Most of what we know about the Universe comes from the light of stars, and as Carl Sagan said, we ourselves are made of star stuff. On the other hand, most of the Universe is not made of star stuff nor does it give off light. Nonetheless, we know that dark matter and dark energy are the primary constituents of the Universe and are crucial to our existence. We will discuss what we know about dark matter and dark energy and the crucial roles they have played in shaping our Universe.
